Guitar Lessons

Get Yourself a Good Teacher!

For many years, I was “self-taught.” That’s cool, but I’ve discovered later in life that having a good guitar teacher has been a tremendous asset to my musical development. Also, I’m looking for an organ teacher … I think my technique is wrong but I can’t figure out what to change. Hit me up!

Not all great players are great teachers. Teaching is its own skill. I’ve devoted much of my life to teaching, and I thoroughly enjoy the experience of helping my students improve their skills and knowledge. This is starting to sound like some kind of motivational sell-it-to-you speech, but it’s really true. Teachers are important. Thanks, teachers!

Sam consistently brings the rare mix of considerable skill, remarkable patience, and humility that is just inspiring as a teacher. He has the ability to meet you fully wherever you are and see the next right step to bring you along, to listen carefully, and help you find both where and how to grow. It’s been a real gift and a joy to work with and learn from Sam—one that is keeping me steadily grateful.

Sam has been a warm and inviting teacher. I feel challenged to stick with the learning and supported to have fun with it. His musicianship and dedication are really something special — you’d be in good hands learning with him.

Working with Sam has been a delight! He has helped me focus on developing technique by curating practices that meet me where I am challenged. Learning has been easeful with his help and I continue to watch myself improve and build confidence. His humor and thoughtful encouragement have also helped me stick with troublesome and tricky parts of the songs I am learning. Now, some of these parts are my favorite to play! I continue to be inspired working with Sam. Thanks so much!
